Ostomy Shower Protector
Purpose
This is a protector that is designed to cover surgical wounds on the stomach. Originally made for my grandfather, I wanted to increase his safety and ease his level of comfort while bathing. He used it for a couple of years and loved it.
Water-Resistant TPU
Easy to use friendly design
Custom hook point to latch belt
Comfortable and flexible fit
Tested and received good feedback
The prototype chosen (the one on the left) was selected due to its superior comfort, simplicity, and functionality compared to other designs. Although the earlier prototype (shown above) had a rigid design that also offered comfort and effectiveness, it was ultimately not chosen because its side parts would dig into the body. This caused discomfort for the user wearing it, which made it less suitable despite its other advantages. The preferred version avoids these corners overall and provides a better overall experience.
Latches and Tolerances
The device is secured to the body using a tight-fit latch system designed for ease and security. This system is simpler and less cumbersome than typical backpack buckles that require squeezing every time. It employs a plug-and-play style mechanism where a female connector slides over a male attachment. The male piece is pushed into the female connector either from the top or bottom, and then it is pulled tightly into a hole to lock it firmly in place. This method is particularly effective with flexible filaments, ensuring the latch remains secure during use and avoids the annoyance of frequent unclipping.
